Can I grow my own seeds in the AeroGarden?

The short answer is yes, you can! There is a little more involved than a simple yes, however, as not all plants are compatible with the AeroGarden, and not all plants that like the AeroGarden like to be grown together.

Different types of plants have different light, water flow, and nutrient requirements. Our Seed Kits have been carefully researched and exhaustively tested to determine the optimal requirements for each plant chosen, and these plants have then been combined within each Seed Kit to be compatible with one another not only in their light, water flow and nutrient requirements, but also their growth rate and size.

If you are an experienced AeroGardener you will generally be okay combining herbs with herbs, greens with greens, and flowering/fruiting crops with other flowering/fruiting crops (such as tomatoes with peppers), provided you take care to prune them properly to keep them all about the same height. However, if you try to mix, say, lettuce with tomatoes, or herbs with flowers, you may run into trouble.

Having said that, we do encourage our customers to experiment on their own with their favorite plants, and see whether or not they do well. For this purpose we offer a Master Gardener Deluxe Kit, which comes with seven reusable baskets, a year’s supply or Grow Sponges, Domes, and nutrients, and and excellent Master Gardener Deluxe Guide which contains general suggestions for experimenting. The Master Gardener Deluxe Kit is available from our website at www.aerogrow.com.

We recommend that if you do not have prior hydroponic or aeroponic growing experience, you begin with one of our pre-planted seed kits until you get the hang of it. Our Gourmet Herbs and Romaine Seed Kits are very easy and are a great place to start.
